Frederick Proehl Barbato House, 2212 Decatur

This house was built in 1889 by Mr. Frederick “Fritz” Proehl who ran a popular saloon on Washington Avenue. It was enlarged to its present-day appearance in 1893 with an addition to the east. During the mid-20th century, the Barbatos, an Italian immigrant family, ran a bakery from a building in the rear of the house.
