M.E.C.A.'s advanced mariachi ensemble, "Mariachi M.E.C.A.", is comprised of students who participate in M.E.C.A.'s after-school program and students from the Houston and Aldine Independent School Districts. Mariachi M.E.C.A. has played for President Bush and President Clinton; received first, second, and third place awards at national mariachi competitions; performed in New York, France, Northern Ireland, and Mexico; and have opened for the world famous Mariachi Vargas at Houston's Wortham Arts Center. They also perform at countless festivals, community celebrations, civic events, and private parties throughout the year. Mariachi M.E.C.A. is under the direction of Jose A. Niûo. |
