511 Henderson

Once upon a time a late 19th century house was on the corner lot at 2103 State St.  In 1919 Abe Cohen bought the lot.  The 1930 census says that he was born in Poland; the 1940 census says that he was born in Jerusalem.  He built a new house at 511 Henderson in about 1927.  In 1930 he was a vegetables peddler; in 1933 he constructed a grocery store on the northeast corner of the lot and called it Cohen's Cash Food Market.  He ran the grocery store and lived at 511 Henderson until shortly before he died in 1954.  Later Alf A. Meth lived at 511 Henderson and the store was the Meth Food Market.  We don't know what happened to the store.  In the 1990's a former grocery store was moved from 2208 Lubbock to its present location on the front of the lot.  Abe Cohen's bungalow remains at 511 Henderson on the back of the lot.
