1805 State
In about 1892 Francois Tajan, a French immigrant, built 4 identical Folk Victorian extended shotgun cottages as tenant houses at 1803, 1805, 1807, and 1809 State Street. Each one had a shed and a privy. He owned 3 1/2 lots or 175' of frontage. He built 4 houses on lots with about 43' of frontage. 1803 and 1807 have survived; the other two have not. Tajan's heirs sold 1805 State in 1924. Today the lot is the back yard of a modern residence on North Memorial Way.
