2117 State

This post Fourth Ward North cottage was probably built in about 1899 by Charles Juergen, a farmer.  Between 1902 and 1913 Julius Emil Schmidt lived at 2117 State.  In the 1910's he and two neighbors, John and Charles Holm, had a business at 2215-17 Washington selling groceries and also hay, grain, and feeds.  Between 1921 and 1941 Mrs. Josephine Weber, a widow, lived at 2117 State.  Until 1916 she and her husband had lived above the grocery store at 919 Henderson, which he ran.  In 1946 Antonio Renteria and his wife Socorro bought 2117 State a few months after they married and lived here until about 1964.
