2115 State

Charles Hartmann built a dwelling in about 1893 on lots 9 and 10 and after his death it was inherited by his wife, who married George D. Meyer in 1900.  In 1905 they paid $1065 for improvements on the 2 lots.  A reasonable conjecture is that 2113 State on lot 9 is the 1893 house and that the Folk Victorian side hall cottage with Queen Anne influences at 2115 State is a new house built in 1905.  George and Elizabeth Meyer were both German immigrants.  They continued to live at 2113 State.  The new house was sometimes rented, but more often it was occupied by one or another of the Meyers' 3 daughters and their husbands.  Teresa married Walter H. Schmidt in 1917.  In about 1928 the 1-story house became a 2-story duplex, and in city directories from 1929 until 1978 Walter Schmidt is the resident at 2115 1/2 State.
