2209 Union

Mrs. Rachel Rodley, a widow, bought lot 9 in 1883 and lived there until about 1896.  There was a dwelling of some kind on the lot in 1877; it is believed to be the dwelling that Rachel Rodley lived in and which we see in the 1896 Sanborn map.  From 1903 until his death in 1930 August Chun, a German immigrant and railroad employee, lived at 2209 Union, and then his unmarried daughters Lena and Annie continued to live there until about 1950.  Rodolfo Saenz and his wife were already living in the house when they bought it from the Chun family in 1955.  They lived there until the late 1970's.  The current house has been expanded piecemeal from its original incarnation as a Fourth Ward North Cottage into its present-day appearance with a gabled roof.
