2108 State

This raised ell-wing Folk Victorian cottage was built in about 1897 by John Holm, a German immigrant.  In the 1910's he and his brother Charles Holm, who lived across the street at 2111 State, had a business at 2215-17 Washington selling groceries and also hay, grain, and feeds.  John Holm and his wife Alma lived at 2108 State until 1921.  In that year they sold the house to Jesus Gutierrez, a Mexican immigrant, who was both a hotel musician and a printer.  2108 State is at times in city directories as the Gutierrez Printing Co.  Jesus died in 1940; his widow Mrs. Francis Gutierrez lived at 2108 State until 1955, and for many years after that various children lived there.
